I Wanna Grow Old With You
There are two people, a man and a woman, having dinner in a gorgeous restaurant. The man is talking about funny stories to try to make her smile. They look so happy. After dinner, the man takes a small box out of his pocket and opens it. There is a ring, maybe a diamond ring, and he says to her, “Will you marry me?” She pretends to be surprised by his proposal and says, “Yes, I will.” And she starts crying.
Oh, this is so boring. I always wonder why every proposal has the same storyline, and the ending is the woman crying. I’m not sure if the real reason of crying is to be impressed by the proposal or the diamond ring. The ring is a symbol of the wedding, and it means everlasting love. However, this is not a wedding day. It is a proposal day. We can make different types of events and prepare different types of gifts. Also, why does a man always propose to a woman? A woman can propose to a man, and then we might be able to see the man crying.
Singing a song, writing a letter or a poem… If you think they are old-fashioned, how about an iPad proposal instead of a ring? Buy an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil. Open the sketch app. Write down part of a beautiful poem or a message with a cute emoji. If it is too expensive, go to Starbucks together and order the menu with the message instead of your nickname. “Will you marry me?”
After the movie Love Actually came out, the sketchbook proposal like a movie scene became very famous. I really like this movie and sound track, so I watched the movie many times and bought the sound track CD. This is one of my favorite proposal, but I prefer the lyrics of the movie Wedding Singer, “I want to grow old with you.”
There is no ring and no flowers, but there is a man who loves me.
What more could I ask for?
“I want to grow old with you.”
