  • Departure: Kathmandu International Airport in Nepal (13:30)
  • Arrival: Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Thailand (18:15)
  • Flight/Time: TG 320 / 3hrs 30mins

I had a 13hour layover in Bangkok again. On the way to Nepal I experienced how calm Bangkok was in the morning, but this time I had totally different experience, sleepless in Khao San Road in Bangkok. I heard this place is called ‘The holy land for backpackers,’ so I thought it was a calm and peaceful place. However, ‘the holy land’ didn’t mean that holy in a dictionary. It was almost like Hongdae street in Korea. There were a lot of pubs, restaurants, snack food carts along the crowded district. The loud music and noise resounded through the street. I had once been to ‘the holy land’ in Seoul with my friends, but it was not my taste. I have three words that I want to avoid when going to places: crowded, busy, and noisy. Unfortunately, holy Khao San Road perfectly matched to the three words.

I found a quiet restaurant in the alley and had dinner. I wanted to leave right after dinner, but I was caught in a heavy shower, so I stayed for one more hour. I love the movie Sleepless in Seattle, so I went to Seattle just for that reason and started to love Seattle more than before. However, sleepless in Bangkok at Khao San Road would be my gray memory ball that was quickly vacuumed away from my brain.

I came back to the hotel and took a shower. I set the alarm. I got only three hours of sleep. I felt I had to get up as soon as I fall asleep. Such a tired day would wait for me…
