명연기자가 되라 Be a great performer

영국의 문호 셰익스피어의 희곡 <뜻대로 하세요>의 2막 7장에 나오는 유명한 대사다.

우리는 인생을 하나의 연극에 비유할 수 있다.

셰익스피어의 말과 같이 세계는 무대요, 인간은 배우다. 인생의 핵심을 적절하게 갈파한 명언이다. 연극은 3대 요소로 구성된다. 첫째는 무대요, 둘째는 배우요, 셋째는 이야기의 줄거리다.

연극의 유명한 장면은 우리의 심금을 울린다. 명배우의 명연기는 우리의 가슴을 찌르는 박진미가 있다. 훌륭한 대사는 명구가 되어 우리의 입에 자주 회자된다.

우리는 좋은 연극을 보았을 때 열광과 칭찬의 박수갈채를 아끼지 않는다.

연극의 명작은 하나의 기쁨이요, 감격이요, 축복이요, 생명이다. 그러나 무대의 연극과 인생의 연극은 다소 다른 점이 있다.

무대의 연극은 오랜 연습 후에 공연한다. 그리고 수차의 재공연이 가능하다. 그러나 인생의 연극은 그렇지가 않다. 처음 공연이 마지막 공연이다. 인생은 자작자연의 연극이다. 내가 각본을 쓰고 내가 연출을 해야 한다. 남이 내 각본을 써줄 수가 없고, 남이 나의 대역을 할 수가 없다.

인간은 역할적 존재다. 사람이 이 세상에서 산다는 것은 자기에게 맡겨진 역할을 수행하는 것이다. 역할이란 말은 자기가 맡은 역을 할당한다는 뜻이다.

우리는 사회에서 저마다 어떤 역할을 맡는다. 교수의 역할을 맡는 이도 있고, 기업가의 역할을 맡는 이도 있고, 농부의 역할을 맡는 이도 있고, 공무원의 역할을 맡는 이도 있고, 정치가의 역할을 맡는 이도 있다.

그 사람의 그릇과 능력과 운명에 따라서 맡는 역할이 각각 다르다.

역사의 긴요한 주역을 맡는 이도 있고, 평범한 조역을 맡는 이도 있고, 하찮은 단역을 맡는 이도 있다.

인생이라는 연극은 대체로 4막으로 구성된다.

제 1막은 탄생이요, 제 2막은 사랑이요, 제 3막은 활동이요, 제 4막은 죽음이다. 우리는 이 세상에 태어나서 여러 가지의 사랑을 경험하고, 여러 가지의 활동을 하고, 그리고 죽음의 종지부가 찍힌다. 탄생이 없는 인간이 없고 죽음이 없는 인생이 없다. 생에서 사에 이르는 인생의 긴 도상에서 우리는 많은 것을 보고, 많은 것을 배우고, 많은 것을 느끼고, 많은 것을 경험하고, 많은 것을 사랑하고, 많은 것을 이루고, 때가 되면 인생의 무대에서 혼자 조용히 사라져야 한다.

인생에서 역할처럼 중요한 것이 없다. 우리는 신이 나에게 맡긴 역할, 운명이 나에게 부여해 준 역할을 열심히 수행해야 한다.

아버지가 되었으면 아버지의 일을 열심히 하고, 아내가 되었으면 아내의 역할을 성실하게 해야 한다. 농부가 되었으면 농사에 정성을 다하고, 기업인이 되었으면 기업에 자기의 생명을 불사르고, 공무원이 되었으면 공복의 일에 심혈을 쏟고, 학생이 되었으면 공부에 일심불란(一心不亂)의 정열을 바쳐야 한다.

명배우는 아카데미상을 받고, 명연기자는 대종상을 받는다. 우리는 자기가 맡은 역할을 잘 해내는 인생의 명배우가 되고, 타의 추종을 불허하는 사회의 명연기자가 되어야 한다. 저마다 인생의 뛰어난 스타가 되고, 훌륭한 탤런트가 되어야 한다.

자기가 맡은 역할에 대하여 밤낮 불평과 태만과 무책임과 불성실한 태도를 갖는다는 것은 인간으로서 부끄러운 일이다.

그는 사람된 도리를 다하지 못하는 것이요, 인간의 본분을 다하지 못하는 것이다.

명연기자는 결코 우연히 되는 것이 아니다. 백련천마(百鍊千磨)의 공부와 각고면려刻苦勉勵)의 수련이 필요하다.

우리는 하나님이 나에게 맡긴 역할을 사랑해야 한다. 우리는 운명이 나에게 부여한 역할을 소중하게 생각해야 한다. 그리고 자기의 역할을 진지하게 수행하는 인생의 명배우가 되고, 사회의 명연기자가 되어야 한다.

“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.”

This is a famous quote from in Act 2, Chapter 7 of As You Like It in Shakespeare’s play, who is an English writer.

We can compare life to a play.

Like his quote, the world is a stage, and a human being is an actor. It’s a great saying that sees through the core of life. A play consists of these three things; the first is a stage, the second is an actor, and the third is a story.

The famous scene of the play touches our hearts. A great actor’s great acting has a heart-wrenching beauty. A great line is bandied about as a great quote.

When we watch a good play, we give a round of applause for acclamation and complement.

A great play is pleasure, touching, blessing, and life. However, there is somewhat of a difference between a stage play and a life play.

We perform a stage play after a long practice and can repeat a performance many times. But we can’t repeat a life play. The first performance is the last one. Life is a self-writing-and-performing play. I have to write a script and direct a play. No one can write my script and can be a substitute for my role.

A human is a role-playing being. Living a life is playing a role that I am entrusted with. The meaning of a role is to assign a position that is given responsibility for.

Each one of us takes a certain role in society such as a professor, an entrepreneur, a farmer, an officer, and a politician.

Each person has different roles depending on their potential, ability, and fate.

Some people play important roles in history. Some people play supporting roles. And some people play mere extra parts.

A play called ‘Life’ generally consists of four Acts.

Act 1 is birth, Act 2 is love, Act 3 is activity, and Act 4 is death. We are born and experience various kinds of love, do many activities and come to an end in death. All humans are born, and life ends in death. Throughout life, from birth to death, we see, learn, feel, experience, love, and achieve many things, and then we have to disappear on the stage of our life, quietly and alone, when the time comes.

There is nothing more important in life than a role. I have to work hard to play my role that God entrusted me, and fate gave me.

If we become a father, we have to work hard as a father. If we become a wife, we have to sincerely play a role as a wife. If we become a farmer, we have to devote our heart to farming. If we become an entrepreneur, we have to put all our effort into the business. If we become an officer, we have to do our best at work. If we become a student, we have to study diligently.

A great actor wins an Oscar Award, and a great performer wins a Grand Bell Award. We have to be a great actor in our life who is good at playing roles and be a great performer of society who are second to none. We have to be an outstanding star, and a great talent in our lives.

It’s shameful to have complaints, negligence, irresponsibility, and a faithless attitude in our roles all day long.

It means we don’t maintain our moral values and don’t do one’s duty as a human being.

It’s never a coincidence being a great performer. We have to work ourselves up hundreds and thousands of times and put in great effort to be a great performer.

We have to love the role that God entrusted us. We have to value the role that fate gave to us. And we have to be a great actor of life and a great performer of society who earnestly plays our role.
